USCIS processing times increase in financial year 2025
The USCIS processing time for both family and employment based petitions have increased in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025.
Compared to the 2024 financial year, there has been a significant increase in processing times in almost all areas. Family-based I-130 applications, including applications by US citizens for their spouses, have been particularly hard hit.
Here is a comparison of processing times from FY 2024 compared to the first quarter of FY 2025 (October 1, 2024 – January 31, 2025):
Application type | FY 2024 | FY 2025 |
---|---|---|
I-130 Petition for Immediate Relative | 11.7 months | 14.4 months |
I-129 Petition for Nonimmigrant Worker | 2.2 months | 3.5 months |
I-140 Petition for Immigrant Worker | 7.1 months | 7.6 months |
I-485 Application to Adjust Status (employment-based) | 6.6 months | 6.9 months |
I-485 Application to Adjust Status (family-based) | 8.9 months | 9.3 months |
These delays can impact applicants and their families, especially those who rely on the approval of their applications to realize their plans in the United States.
